Objectives

  1.  Reduce Carbon Emissions with a target of carbon neutrality by 2030.
  2.  Promote Sustainable Practices: Integrate sustainability into all aspects of our operations.
  3. Enhance Environmental Awareness: Educate employees about the importance of environmental sustainability and how to reduce their carbon footprint.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations

Out of the CRP Scopes, the largest emission came from employees working from home, also material emissions from transportation.  The base year was calculated with support of an external consultant using all available data at that time.

A full footprint has not been completed in 2023. Outputs from 2023 were affected by significant changes to the business and the data build up required for consistent SECR reporting was not available. A  2024 assessment is underway, and any gaps identified at that time will be subsequently updated when the data becomes available.

Carbon reduction targets

Surgery Hero is continuing to expand, and therefore progressing towards net zero. Surgery Hero is already offsetting carbon footprint reduction by adopting a remote first working model, by facilitating remote care we significantly reduce travel, positively impacting traffic pollution in remote areas.

Surgery Hero will will focus on the following seven key initiatives to achieve carbon reduction targets:

1. Energy Efficiency

  •  Encourage staff to use energy-efficient appliances and lighting at home.
  • Provide guidelines for home energy conservation, such as optimising heating and cooling systems.

2.  Waste Management

  •  Provide staff with resources for effective waste segregation and recycling at home.
  • Reduce single-use plastics and encourage the use of reusable alternatives in home offices.

3. Travel and Transport

  • Minimise the need for travel by maximising the use of virtual meetings, whilst understanding the balance to ensure Surgery Hero continues to operate at the highest level.
  •  Encourage active travel for necessary trips, such as walking or cycling. Promote the use of public transport and carpooling for essential in-person meetings.

4. Procurement

  • Source supplies and services from environmentally responsible suppliers.
  •  Prioritise products with minimal packaging and those made from recycled materials.
  • Encourage staff to adopt sustainable procurement practices for their home offices.

5. Education and Engagement

  • Conduct virtual training sessions on sustainability for Surgery Hero employees.
  • Work with clients and  partners to raise awareness among patients about the environmental impact of healthcare and how they can contribute.

6. Green Spaces

  • Encourage staff to create green spaces at home, such as indoor plants or small gardens.
  • Promote the benefits of green spaces for mental health and well-being.

7. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Set annual targets for reducing emissions and improving sustainability in line with the GHG Protocol standard.
  • Publish an annual sustainability report to track progress and engage stakeholders.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
